Sixth Form

Head of Sixth Form: Mr. C. Stockton
Sixth Form Supervisor: Mrs. K. Evans
Sixth Form News:
At the school we pride ourselves in the teaching and learning support given to all our sixth form students. Here the time-table is very often tailored to suit the subject choices made by students. These are supplemented by extra/additional clinics for those students who either opt for the additional commitment or, due to subject demands, become a necessary additional teaching requirement. To accommodate the breadth of subjects that are available and to allow for a full teaching commitment; some lessons will be conducted during assembly sessions (Tuesday & Thursday mornings), lunch times and selected days over half term periods. Such arrangements will be at the discretion of the subject teachers concerned. Often this will be a mutual agreement between students and teachers.

The core of the sixth form facilities and teaching is the Bungalow Block. Within the block is a study room for up to 30 pupils – which is supervised at all times, teaching rooms for languages, mathematics and humanities, a drama studio, library, plus relaxation facilities, including kitchen, lounge, garden and conservatory. Science and IT teaching for the sixth form take place in the main school buildings. The Bungalow Block has been recently modernized and extended, enabling us to increase the capacity of the sixth form, whilst at the same time retaining a controlled and friendly, family atmosphere.
Mr. C. Stockton is Head of Sixth Form and Boarding, and Mr. D. Davey is responsible for supervision of the Upper and Lower sixth, setting study timetables and assuring attendance and an effective working atmosphere. All pupils are required to attend a number of study periods per week (the actual amount depends upon lesson load), and within the study period checks are made on work completed and homework due. For our science orientated pupils we have recently upgraded our Biology and Chemistry Labs (with Physics soon to follow). The improved facilities seem to be suiting our six formers, with 25% of the 2005 cohort now studying medicine at university. We also have a separate Music Block where pupils are able to practice instruments and where Music Technology is taught.
The history of excellence in our A Level results and success in achieving our objectives for our 6th form can be clearly demonstrated through the past achievements of our A Level students. The results page gives a summary of some of these achievements covering the last 7 years. Below are some of our press releases from recent years.
