Physical Education
Head of Department: Miss J. Price
Staff: Mr. D. Rees
Support Staff: Mr. Davey & Mr. Corbisiero
Physical Education at St. Michael's is a busy department, staffed by experienced and committed sports' teachers, offering a wide range of sports. At all times of the year there are skills being developed, competitions entered, trophies to be defended and individuals to be coached.
Philosophy
We hope that every child on leaving school in years 6/11/13 will have achieved the following:
Teaching
Children are taught P.E. from nursery classes from the age of 3 to year 11. In the Preparatory school, the children are taught a variety of sports with the emphasis on enjoyment and participation. Matches are played regularly in netball/soccer/rugby (Winter), tennis/rounders/cricket (Summer). Swimming is also part of the curriculum.
In the senior school, a wide range of sports are taught, again, with an emphasis on enjoyment, although competitiveness is encouraged. The sports are netball/hockey/cross country running/rugby/soccer/basketball (Winter), athletics/tennis/rounders and cricket (summer).
As we have no indoor facilities our emphasis is on team games although girls are offered Zumba, Boxercise and dance as part of the curriculum, with outside staff.
