Towards the end of September many of our boarders went to the PGL activity centre and had a fantastic time, thanks to Mr Jenkins (Sport/Parc House) and Miss Shand (Director of Boarding) for accompanying them.
Here is an account of the experience by Dumebi in Year 8:
“This a camp located in Brecon Beacons where children are introduced to a wide range of activities like abseiling. It is the sort of place you send your child when you believe that he is indoors too much. For St. Mikes, it is an annual trip for boarders in which they get to socialise and have fun by competing with each other and working together and it usually promotes tolerance and teamwork.
This year was no different. As soon as we arrived we were greeted by friendly staff and escorted to our rooms. We were then eventually taken to our first activities. We were then informed that we would be split into two groups. My group was led into a small forest in which we were tasked with constructing a shelter for survival and what tools we would choose to survive in the Amazon rainforest. It was quite educational and fun.
After that, we went abseiling which was quite enjoyable to partake in, however it was far more entertaining to watch two of the other boarders (Leeroy and Moses) blunder as they tried to work together. After that, us boys had free time on our hands and decided to play football despite how dysfunctional we were whilst playing; we thoroughly enjoyed playing before our football was kicked into the river.
The next day, after I myself had a hard time sleeping because of the racket made by most of the others, we reclaimed our ball and played another match but this time we were very mindful of the river to our backs. We then had breakfast and after, some of us did zip lining which I admit frightened me while the others did aero ball which was basketball but on trampolines. I enjoyed aero ball but refused to participate in zip lining. We then had lunch and proceeded to depart from PGL.
In conclusion, I can say that all of us had a worthwhile and enjoyable adventure there.”
