At the end of September Mr Jenkins and Mrs Szumna accompanied 18 of the younger boarders to the PGL Centre located in the Brecon Beacons.
Over the two days they experienced various activities – some of which demanded team building skills and problem solving, whilst other tasks challenged the individual. As always, the weather added an additional challenge but in fairness to the group they stuck to task and everyone showed a positive attitude. The activities included: Abseiling, Archery, Rifle Range, Climbing, Obstacle Course, A Sensory Trail, and a much loved session on the Zip Wire. In the evening the students enjoyed a film and to the delight of the staff, come 22:00 the students were tucked up in bed and enjoying a well deserved rest.
Mr Jenkins highlighted the fact that he was impressed with how well the group worked together, “once students are out of their comfort zone they instantly start to recognise their own strengths and weaknesses and this is when peer support is so important”. Supportive and cheerful team work provided every student with a positive experience.
Alongside the activities the students enjoyed the dormitory accommodation but admitted they were looking forward to getting back to Parc House and to Ms McCusker’s cooking – which they really missed! They did however enjoy celebrating 2 birthdays; Yoon Nam & Mrs Szumna – the cake was great and it was an excuse to have many renditions of the customary birthday songs.
