We are absolutely thrilled to announce that St. Michael’s School has been placed third in the whole of the UK for its 2024 A-Level results. The results which were the highest ever achieved in our 100-year history, saw us rise above many prestigious and well-known British independent schools to gain a spot in the top three.
The league tables which are published in both The Sunday Times and The Telegraph, are based on the percentages of A* and A*-A grades achieved by students in their A-Levels. At St. Michael’s, 48.9% of grades were A* and 86.8% of all grades were A* or A. Almost all of our pupils achieved a place at their first choice university and will study a variety of courses such as Medicine, Dentistry, Law, Engineering and Economics.
Headmaster, Mr Benson Ferrari said: “Our Year 13 leavers were truly exceptional students across the board and have achieved spectacular results. This year’s A-Level results are the highest in the school’s history, which also happily coincides with our centenary. It is therefore unsurprising that they have propelled us to an incredible 3rd place in the whole of the UK amongst all independent schools. It is particularly impressive given that our entry requirements are aimed at ensuring applicants are able to achieve good A* to C passes, not just top grades.
As a predominantly day school, where almost 90% of our pupils come from the local area, many of our pupils start with us at 3 years of age and then stay with us through to 18 years of age. We do make a commitment to them, which is to take them all the way through their education and our results are only ever a natural reflection of that year’s cohort, unlike a majority of schools in the UK top 30, many of which set extremely strict conditions on who can sit exams, in order to maintain a particular league table position year after year. In the best schools, teachers will actually adapt what they do to the particular needs and abilities of that year’s exam candidates rather than just doing the same thing every year. I’d like to congratulate all our staff for helping to make these achievements possible.”
