Year 13 pupil Erin performs for King Charles and Queen Camilla
Congratulations to Year 13 pupil, Erin Thomas who performed in front of King Charles and Queen Camilla yesterday, as part of their first trip to Wales since their Coronation.
Erin performed for them as the winner of the Brecon Choir Festival, Young Singer of the Year award which she won back in May. She sang the Benedictus from Rod Paton’s Jazzmass and was followed by other performers who are taking part in the Brecon Choir Festival.
In their live coverage of the royal visit, Wales Online reported: “Charles and Camilla have taken their seats for a short programme of music by performers from the Brecon Choir Festival, they watching a solo performance from the Ascension Jazzmass which is the opening concert of this year’s festival. This is being accompanied by members from The Ascension and Cathedral choirs as well as musicians who are students from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, of which the King was long standing President as Prince of Wales.”
“The King and Queen were entertained by the winner of the Young Singer Award, Erin Thomas, as well as a solo performance from the Ascension Jazzmass, the opening act of this year’s choir festival.
Wales is known as ‘the Land of Song’, and members of the Ascension and Cathedral choirs accompanied the performers along with students from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.”
Erin has had a fantastic year as in despite of studying for her A-Levels, she has also won several singing competitions and has taken part in many different performances. She will be applying for music conservatoires in November, in order to continue with her very promising music career.
