On March 3rd, we celebrated World Book Day across the School.
In the Senior School, the English Department marked the celebration by doing lots of reading. Years 7, 8 & 9 shared ideas and recommendations in their specially focused English lessons and enjoyed talking about some of the wonderful literature that they’ve had the pleasure of reading.
Staff also shared their favourites – these include Victorian classics like Mrs Griffiths’ top read, The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins; Dr Burgess’s Sci Fi favourite The Day of the Triffids; Mr Stockton’s personal chart topper, Coming up For Air by George Orwell – plus a whole list of childhood greats by Enid Blyton and CS Lewis. Books are definitely high up on the list of staff free time pursuits, and days like World Book Day can help us all focus on the huge benefits of reading.
In the Prep School, pupils were each given a book selected by Mrs Rees-Davies and a book token so that they can purchase a book of their choice. They also brought in their favourite books to discuss with their class.
Three of our Year 5 & 6 pupils have also been telling us a little about what books they enjoy reading and you can see their videos below.
